SUMMARY:Lifeguarding Certification Course (Shallow Water Certification)
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the Shallow Water Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level shallow water lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent\, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 5-feet deep and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies\, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over. Upon successful completion of this course\, participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED\, valid for 2 years. \nCourse Type – Blended Learning\nThis is a Blended Learning course\, combining online learning with the in-person classroom/swimming pool skills course. After registering here\, participants will be contacted by Safety First with their online course link to complete it prior to the start of in-person course in June. \nPrerequisites\nCandidates must:\n1. Be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course (June 8\, 2017).\n2. Swim 100 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl\, breaststroke or a combination of both\, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. Tread water for 2 minutes\, using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.\n3. Complete a timed event within 50 seconds:\n– Starting in the water\, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.\n– Submerge to a depth of 4 to 5 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. SUMMARY:Safe Sitter by Baptist Health
DESCRIPTION:Safe Sitter®teaches young teens (11-14) everything they need to know to be safewhen they’re home alone\, watching younger siblings\, or babysitting. \nStudents learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking\, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR or choking rescue! \nUpon completion of the course\, each student will receive a certificate indicating they completed all course requirements as a Safe Sitter. \nClass Requirements \nStudents will be kneeling on the floor for some sections of the course\, so please don’t wear anything too short or tight. \nIf you have a contagious illness\, such as a cold or fever blister\, you cannot take the course because we use CPR manikins to practice CPR. \nClass Format \n9:30am – 4:30pm \nCourse Instructor \nA Safe Sitter Instructor who has completed Safe Sitter training \nClass Registration \nRegistration and pre-payment is required to reserve your spot. Cost of this class is per student.

DESCRIPTION:Every Wednesday at 4pm we will set up a different gaming system\, PS4\, PS2\, Xbox or Wii\, for tournament play. Sign ups will start on Monday and continue until 4:15pm Wednesday for the gaming bracket. Tournament play will be point based\, the player with the most points at the end of the month wins a prize\, has his/her picture taken and automatically earns a seat to the end of the year “Tournament of Champions” event. Tournament play is for ages 12-18. \n\n\n\n\n\nMaximum participants typically allowed is 32.

DESCRIPTION:The First Wednesday Art Walk is a monthly event produced by Downtown Vision\, Inc. (DVI)\, the Business Improvement District\, to bring people to the cultural and historical center of the city and showcase Jacksonville’s deep and energetic pool of creative talent. Open to visual and performing artists\, Art Walk is on the first Wednesday of every month from 5 – 9 p.m.\, rain or shine. More than 65 Art Walk venues stretch across Downtown Jacksonville’s core and include Hemming Park\, galleries\, museums\, cultural and educational venues\, restaurants and bars\, Downtown businesses and more.The First Wednesday Art Walk is a great way to meet fellow artists\, buy and appreciate their work\, and be part of the rapidly growing art scene in Jacksonville. We estimate that\, on average\, 10\,000 art enthusiasts attend each month to see more than 250 artists exhibiting on the Art Walk.
