FREE Summer Workshops for Teens in Jacksonville
The Jacksonville Public Library is offering several workshops for teens this summer. You can have fun with robotics, art, film making, music, and much more. Check out our June calendar for options. We will be adding July soon!
STEM
Build a Better Bot June 15th – July 21st: Love robotics, or want to find out more about it? Then come take part in robot obstacle courses, races, mazes, dance moves and more! Each week, you and your robot will compete to conquer a new challenge. Who will win?
ACTING
Mad Cowford Presents: Intro to Improv June 15th – July 25th: Learn the basics of improvisation by concentrating on the building blocks of spontaneous comedy. We’ll cover learning how to say “yes, and …,” initiating and committing to scenes, exploring and heightening ideas, and more!
ART
Art With Anthony Mini-Camp June 12 – July 11th: Join local commercial artist Anthony Rooney to learn more about his art and how he turned his passion into a career. Each session you’ll learn a new art technique, from blind contouring, to light and shadow, even into the abstract! Unleash the artist inside.
Thinking in 3-D June 12th – July 11th: Learn new a new technique to take your drawings to the next level! This program will teach you how to turn flat drawings into 3-D drawings under the instruction of cartoonist and artist Bob Drost (Mr. D). You can Build a Better World by “thinking” in 3-D.
Go Native June 10th – July 25th: Tired of the same old art activities? Need reminding that creativity can exist outside of paper and canvas? Then join us for Go Native!, a six-part art adventure that will be sure to inspire. Explore indigenous art and culture from around the world as we create projects that fuse traditional methods with contemporary designs.
Go Native! Art Around the World June 15th – July 20th – This week is all about Australia, the Aboriginal people that have lived there for centuries, and the native art form of ground painting. So come to the San Marco branch from 2:00pm to 3:00 pm on June 15th to learn more about Australia or to attempt to make this art yourself.

Noteworthy Presents: Drumline June 12th – July 16th: Do you love marching bands? What about marching drumlines? Ever thought you’d like to see how they do that? How does one carry a marching drum… and play at the same time? Can I do that? Well, here’s your chance to find out! Jay Brown will lead you as you learn how to drum, a day at a time. By the end of the week, you’ll be ready to perform!

Attention future Spielbergs! Do you have what it takes to Build A Better World At Your Library? Join us to learn the basics of digital film production, from storyboarding to shooting to editing, as you help us produce a short video that promotes the library, literacy, & teens!

Build a Vision: Special Effects Makeup for Teens June 13th – July 18th: Miss Robin will teach a hands-on special effects makeup workshop for teens. Learn about theatrical prosthetics, supplies and “tricks.” Create and apply your own “FACE” during the workshop. Your “VISION” will become real!
Powers of Meditation June 12th – August 21st: Learn How to Meditate Participants will feel relaxed and happy. They are encouraged to stay longer to chat and seek guidance on how they can improve their individual meditation.
Spy vs. Spy June 14th – July 19th: Find out if you have enough wit and prowess to be a successful spy! Each week you’ll work in tandem with other members of your agency through a series of challenges, as you try to outwit and outmaneuver competing teams. May the best agency win!
